Video tribute to designer Paul Rand - video

Picture 14-5

Marco says: "Paul Rand left a huge mark on American graphic design thanks to his corporate logo designs you've all probably seen. It was only recently that the UPS logo was redesigned from his original look.

"Here is a 4 minute Quicktime film tributing Paul's work, a delicious animated journey through very familiar shapes and colors as Paul explains graphic design. In short, it looks really great.

"Paul Rand was inducted to the One Show Creative Hall of Fame this week." Link

Nice.

That old UPS logo is 1,000,000 times better than the new, shiny, reflecto 3-d thing they replaced it with. I love love love that bow.

Long ago and far away (60's New York) I had a close acquaintance Fernando (Fred) NEVES who claimed that HE had designed the then new IBM logo. Could it be that he was an employee in Rands shop and the shop got credit? I seem to recall that at the time he (Fred) was working at one of the major MAJOR advert firms like BBD&O or some such.

I think BB's traffic has killed the site, however. I've got about half of the film downloaded over the 30 minutes. Any mirrors?

You may find it vile, but it is instantly recognizable at any size, shape, color or distance — the mark of a well designed, iconic logo.

Long live Paul Rand's work. Shame on UPS for changing it

I think I remember reading that the bow on the UPS logo was Rand's daughter's idea.

What a brilliant designer.

Call me crazy. I like the new UPS logo better. (But I hate the new at&t thing.)

Crazy!! The old UPS logo was much better.

Maybe they changed it because they don't accept packaged with twine tied around them any more. (Really, they don't! Interferes with the conveyor belts and automated handling equipment.)
