Satellite dish stickers beautify your dish

Satellite Dish Stickers are just what it says on the tin: giant all-weather stickers for your unsightly satellite dishes. Choose from original sunflower or the geometric "Turkish" design. Link (via Geekologie)

How tacky.

Right, HJ03. Care to tell us how to tastefully decorate one's satellite dish?

Gotta agree on the "tacky" judgment - I realize it's none of my business what someone else wants to put on their stuff, and lordy I certainly couldn't pass muster as a "nontacky" person myself, but something about those stickers just makes me wince. It doesn't seem like something that would make a positive addition to one's decor, IMO.

(Though it occurs to me that if they'd had, I dunno, stickers that could make your dish look like a Death Star I'd be all over that ... I'm not proud.)

@Teresa Nielsen Hayden

What, so boingboing readers aren't allowed to call shenanigans on things they find silly? I agree with HJO3; these stickers look ugly and would annoy me if a neighbor used one.

Are we not allowed to disagree with you guys? It's rude to talk down to a poster.

Yeah, I also think they're pretty tacky. You can't beautify everything and I think in the case of a satellite dish, you're going to have a real hard time making it both attractive and functional. To me, this is the satellite dish equivalent of fake wood paneling on a station wagon.

David B (4): Of course they can call things silly. Have you not observed them doing so? And when they do, others can respond that they're being silly, if so inclined. After that it's a matter of ammo and performance. Intelligent interest generally wins out.

If you think my earlier comment was more condescending than someone who says "How tacky" -- well, it's your ear, and you're stuck with it.

I'll admit I have something of an aversion to comments that consist of "Oooh, how boring," or "How tacky," or variants thereof, with no further explanation. It's affected, and it adds nothing to the conversation. (In the case of people who announce that some entry is boring, it's also insincere.)

If you disagree, feel free to explain.

wow, geekologie seems like a very (nouveau geek|faux geek|"we're into geeky things now because geekiness is cool") website.

Also, just because someone can't find a tasteful way to decorate a satellite dish doesn't make the satellite dish stickers any less tacky.

many other examples of "satellite dish art" are on this page

And what you like more? A whole street with ugly dishes or a street with a lot of flowers :)

And then there is the World's Largest Souvenir Travel Plate, made from a satellite dish. It's awesome and totally not tacky. (link)

Dang it, I thought I knew how to make links.

Here's the satellite dish souvenir plate:

Who said you have to decorate them at all? This is like putting sweaters on cats or plastic flamingos on lawns. Some things are inherently cheap- and stupid-looking.

Is it a matter of taste? Of course. I didn't demand that you share my opinion.

personaly i don't like the stickers, just due to the fact that they are not my tast..although you may be on the right track trying to cover them up..perhaps you should create a sticker that matches the brick of a house or has the pattern of roof shingles..i dunno make them blend in to the house not draw more attention to them..let's face it the dish itself is just plain ugly no matter what is on it...but like i said, this is just my opinion...
