Homemade comics from International 24 Hour Comics Day

Andrew sez, "I'm the owner of Chapel Hill Comics in Chapel hill, NC. We participated in the international event 24 Hour Comics Day last weekend, where folks attempt to create 24-page comics over the course of 24 hours. We currently have 2 of the 24-page comics (created by 9 year old Kevin Collins and 12 year old Saul Zimet) and a 5-page preview of another at the store's website, with much more to come!"

Sweet! If you participated in 24 Hour Comics Day, post a link to your creation in the comments! Link (Thanks, Andrew!)

I made a 24-hour comic at Jim Haneley's Universe in Manhattan. It was a really fun thing to do, but I might never do it again - sleep deprivation isn't fun anymore! My comic is called "Pirates Take Manhattan" - here's the link: http://www.billroundy.com/24-1.html

I camped out at Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan for 24HCD last week; it wasn't easy (budgeting your time is key to finishing) but it was a bona-fide blast and I met some new cartoonist pals in the process. Here's my 24 Hour Comic: Before You Were Here

Satisfactory Comics (that's me and my friend Mike Wenthe) didn't participate in this year's 24-Hour Comics Day, but we did make a comic for the first one, Satisfactory Comics #5. It's about a girl visiting the Museum of the Horrible.

Also, our latest issue, Satisfactory Comics #7, was created in a single 38-hour drawing session back in May of this year. It's got sixteen different stories in it.

Some of the formal constraints / reader participation elements in those books might be interesting to BoingBoing readers.

I think we were disqualified from the first 24-Hour Comics Day anthology because our work is collaborative—Mike and I work together on nearly every page of every book—but I'm sure that doesn't make us able to complete one of these things any faster.

Thanks for this. I feel much better about my meager drawing skills...

I did a comic on 24 Hour Comic Day, but it ended up taking 25.5 hours because I did it in colour. You can read it here:

I participated in the event held at the Minneapolis College of Art + Design. My comic, "UrbEx," is on my website here: http://www.jinxville.com/comics/urbex/

It doesn't make any sense, and a lot of the art is rough. It was my first successful go at it, though, so I'm pretty pleased.

My friend Brian Evinou (esteemed animator and comic book artist/aficionado) organized a gathering for 24HCD last weekend at the Hairy Tarantula in Toronto. I wasn't there to participate, but I'm rather proud of this 24HC that I did back in 2005:

It is called "Heaps and Heaps," and is a growing-up story of friendship and loss (with robots).

I participated last weekend for 24 Hour Comic Day at Krypton Comics in Omaha, Nebraska. I did my first 24 Hour book in high school back in 1994 and it blew (obviously since you are making it up as you go in most cases). This year I spent the first hour working out the basic plot and making sure I told a complete story. It turned out pretty good considering. Like Dan said, it is all about your time-budgeting skills (nice one, btw Dan)!

Here's my comic, Go Easy, Bro. It's about a drunken, depressed werewolf.

@Max Riffner: hey, nice style!

"I think we were disqualified from the first 24-Hour Comics Day anthology because our work is collaborative"

As the editor of that anthology, I can say that no, you were not. One of the advantages of naming the books 24 Hour Comics Day Highlights is that it can be highlights of the day... whether they were technically 24 hour comics or not. And as a matter of fact, that book does include a collaborative comic, by Amanda Levinson and Adam Rosenblatt.
Folks looking for more comics from 24 Hour Comics Day can find a list of them on the left-hand sidebar of the 24HCD blog.

I didn't participate in an organized event, but here's my effort this year: Apple Sauce Brain Man and the Philosopher's Hat (four meg PDF).

It might make more sense after reading last year's comic. "More" being a relative term...

Here's mine:

"I Am The President of Ice Cream! part 3"

http://unnecessaryg.com/comics/24prez3/index.htm

Twenty-one hours at the Austin Museum of art, using a tablet PC and a little bit of pencil here and there.

WARNING: This is the third and final chapter of a long story. It makes a LOT more sense if you read the two before it:

http://unnecessaryg.com/comics/prez/index.htm
(parts one and two were 24-hour comics that I cleaned up a bit. Part three will be cleaned up too and I hope to publish the whole story next year).

I did a comic about the joy and struggle of creating a 24hour comic, or taking any step toward any impossible dream.

It's called, "My 24 Hour Comic"

This comic is currently being serialized at:

http://www.artmaker.blogspot.com

the full comic will be released in pdf format after all the pages have been serealized.

A prit version is to follow.

Enjoy it.

I enjoyed making it :)

Some pneumonia kept me from participating with Renate Comics in Berlin, Germany, on the official day. Nevertheless, I sat down on Saturday and hammered out 26 pages in 20 hours of a "by the rules" 24-Hour Comic and had a blast, even though I was alone.

This year's comic (this is my second year) is "Mr. Scraps," and I like it a lot more than last year's. You either download a copy of the pdf (7.1MB) or check out the online version.

Can't wait for next year.

I didn't draw a comic this year, but I wanted to post a link to John Cambell's fantastic 24 hour comic 'the man who used to know everything':

Aw, I missed it again. Damn Real Life for getting in the way these last couple of years. I loved doing my 24 Hour Comic (even if all my friends bailed on me after eating all my food)... next time, I guess.

Here's my 2005 entry. I like robots: http://www.faitherinhicks.com/logic/1.html

I'm not a very experienced comics creator, but I love to write and draw comics so I gave it a shot this year. I didn't make it for twenty-four hours OR twenty-four pages, but I did start a fairly promising story that I'm still working on, which I plan to complete mid-November. Here are the pages I penciled: http://www.inventorslog.org/24hour/

I'm going to try a 24-hour comic again sometime though -- with a sillier story and simpler art, I think I can do it! :-)

I also did a 24 Hour Comic along side my Shocktrauma Studios brother Max Riffner at Krypton Comics in Omaha, Ne. My story, "The Last Late Show" is avaliable at http://www.webcomicsnation.com/flgorham/lastlateshow . Its a story about a fan of a horror show host and his chance to meet him. It also talks about why horror movie shows went off the air.

Let me know what you think!

Joined the Cedko event in Malaysia for a second year in a row, and finished my comic a bit faster than expected, I attribute this to using black paper so I wouldn't have to spend a lotta time (and PENS!) drawing the space sequences...

Too Many Stars on the Way!

If you go thru the archives, last year's comic is there too, ENJOY!

I am new to the comic blogging scene and regret having missed out on the International 24 Hour Comics Day. It's great to see that I am not alone and hope to participate in next years 24-hour comic at Jim Haneley's Universe in Manhattan since I live just across the Brooklyn Bridge. I do daily comic blogs entitled "Healthy Options Work!™" to encourage people to make healthy choices daily:

Another PeRgH! member comic.....
I think I am the only amateur during the event held @ Damansara Cineleisure organised by Cedko, PeKOMIK... uh, did I get the facts right? =_=

Because I am NOT a comic artist, am just a Science stream kid who usually do pixel art rather than an actual comic. Towards the end of the whole thing, my artworks had been more lame than the earlier ones.

But only can upload one page at a time for now because it is my cousin's gallery.... have to follow his T&C to host my comics. You may comment on the site itself you have an account in SA. Have fun! ;)

Adios... Jejejejejeje!!

Hello from Calgary,Canada!

This is my third consecutive year for 24HC Day. I've completed two out of three.

This year I created my entry directly online, using Rate My Drawing. I did this all at home, with little sleep-having worked a full day and started at midnight.48 pages were done on RMD.
