Yahoo informs us that the Pope "has landed a recurring role on Fox's 24." Oh wait, it's Carly Pope, not the Pope. But she does look a little like the Pope in the photo that Yahoo ran with the story.
Link(Thanks,
Molly!)
This can't possibly be better than the episode of "Picket Fences" where the Pope was put on the stand for witnessing a murder that was ruled a suicide. The Pope gets beat down.
OK. I admit it. I want to shake his holiness' hand. Then I want to run my hand up his sleeve to make sure he's not hiding a spring-loaded lightsaber.
....
....
What? Just me then?
Then possibly try to tickle him and see if he laughs like I think he does.
dculberson: but how many of them went on to be dogma obsessed old men protecting pedophiles, staunchly defending useless dogma that represses many. Face it, the "managments" opinion of condom use in regards to HIV (and many other issues) says to me that he never turned in his merrit badges.
and despite being very anti religion, i don't want to come off as an indescriminate catholic basher. While i have plenty of issues with JPII i could come up with many many good things to say about him at the same time. I would almost go as far to call him a great man.
Sure, Tim's comments were a bit acerbic and perhaps not that well articulated... but here is a man who is spearheading an organisation that will happily watch Africa sink into a pit of HIV infections, simply so they can tow some antiquated "moral" line about contraception.
I find catholics - at least the extremists - a disgrace.
What do I mean by extremists? Anyone who rightly thinks that God's will to pump out more Catholics is > God's will to not see people, their families and children suffer (from HIV / AIDs, in this case).
But, to the point in case: Yahoo's news is a hilarious epicentre of poorly matched headlines and AP photographs.
The only exception I took with your comment was the Hitler Youth one. You simply cannot use that against him - unless you truly expect a 14-year-old to "stand up to the man" in the sort of political environment he, and every German youth at that time, was dealing with.
It weakens your position. Don't do it.
The Catholic upper level hierarchy as a whole embraces / endorses the terrible positions he's taken. That's why they chose him as pope. For example, they hold the (wrong, IMHO) anti-birth-control stance, so they aren't going to choose a pope that believes differently. Conservative people choose conservative leaders. Which is a real shame - the Catholic church is in a position to do some real good, globally, and chooses instead to use their position to further the descent of Africa into their HIV epidemic, continue to be divisive regarding other churches and religions, etc.
I guess my point is, I don't like him either, but your argument was spurious.
Carly Pope and Carly Fiorina headed for Fox on the same day? Who came up with this terrible first name, and why is Fox hiring two of them on the same day?! I smell coinspiracy...
Carly Pope is an ex-hitler youth who protected Fr. Marcial Maciel, a pervert who molested devout children for decades?
oh wait.. i get it.. i get the mistake.
P.S. Fuck Benedict XVI
Nice, Tim. Really necessary.
although names seem not to be...

"ex-hitler youth" like all German boys who were over 14 after 1936.. Yeah, how dare he be a German youth in 1941!!
this is why i converted to google
His Holiness' performance in "Itty Bitty Titty Committee" is not to be missed.

not so much with ratzinger.
I dont think its very respectful... by the way you dont shake his hand.. you kiss his left ring finger...

respect is earned.
And this is the guy who would make clergymen who disagreed with his theology kneel before him and kiss his feet.
He hasn't done enough to earn a basic level of respect.
Ring Kissing? no way.
Feet snogging? I'd just as soon spit on someone who demanded i kiss their feet because they had a personal beef with me.

fair enough, i see your side, its just that i see a certain parallel with his supposedly disavowed actions of his youth and his actions today.
