Michael Wallent, a general manager at Microsoft, will return to work in January as Megan Wallent. The software company is a supportive environment for transgendered people -- but what about for women?

Good for her. It's hard coming out trans at work, and terrifying transitioning there. Sometimes it seems like it'd be easier to scrap it all and find a new job in your female identity.
Good to see that most the comments on the original story are supportive... scary though how some people are still so neanderthal.
I agree with you Tamara -- as a transgendered woman who went through a similar process, I am at this point unsuprised when people's understanding of what it means to be trans is deeply flawed, yet I remain disturbed when I see its manifestations. The fundamental flaw in bigoted arguments is that they center around the so-called "sex change", and don't recognize that sex and gender are separate items. Parts are parts, but gender is a blend of biology and socialization. It's impossible to be as essentialist about it as some of the commenters are attempting to be. For many transpeople (myself included), sex-reassignment surgery is not the focal point of trtansition at all -- it's all about being one's self in the world.
Good for her!

Well, that's one way for a woman to wind up in management.
Hope that upgrade goes better than mine with Vista.
