Interesting airport security photo

"This was captured as I collected my things from airport security (Detroit Metro Concourse A). I think of it as something like a Rorschach test. Is an elderly Catholic nun being frisked by a Muslim security agent the celebration of blind justice? Or is it simply an admission of absurdity?"

I think I have this porn on DVD...

And I'm sure that nun will make a big stink about how offensive it is that she's being searched. Not.

Now imagine a Muslim woman in a hijab being searched by a guard wearing a great big ol' crucifix -- the comments about "right-wing Christian oppression" and "theocratic jackbooted thugs" etc would be coming thick and fast.

I think that organized religion is more dangerous than terrorism.

Oh wait... They are the same thing. My mistake.

Yeah, those damned Amish and Buddhists must be stopped before they kill again!

A nun and a Muslim walk into a security line...

This picture needs a Lubavitcher, just for completeness's sake.

Danger lurks all around us and can strike anywhere and
everywhere. In Israel, Palestinian suicide bombers have
used disguise to carry out terrorist attacks nfiltrating
Israel camouflaged as Orthodox Jews, a lesson , I'm
sure, not lost on al-Qaeda.

Who is to say this innocent nun is not in fact an al-Qaeda
operative? A better question might be 'who wants to take
the chance'? This supposed nun might very well be the
next Mohamed Atta. (sarcasm off)

I knew the screeners were supposed to be on the lookout for passengers with certain habits, but I didn't suppose they'd take it so literally.

I want to take the chance. I would rather take the 1 in a bajillion chance that there might possibly be a nun with a bomb to avoid the indignities of someone being paid near minimum wage frisking people at random.

Seriously, people... we've had air travel for over a century now and somehow we have avoided every other plane blowing up or crashing into buildings without all this crap. Would frisking have discovered the box cutters the 9/11 terrorists used? I doubt it since I am sure they weren't stupid enough to make it obvious if they were stopped.

Once again, none of the airport security measures post-9/11 do anything but provide a band-aid solution to a problem that is probably unavoidable. As long as you have public transport, you'll have someone trying to use it to kill people.

Of course, the ever peaceful Buddhists and loving Amish (which are Christian by the way and we all know what atrocities they have been responsible for). Sorry, but all pleasant delusions must be smashed.

On topic, why should nuns be given special exemptions that the rest of us don't have?

Mr. Jefferson, build up that wall!

Getting the American flag in the background just lends it that extra special touch of irony.

Actually, I know two women who dressed as nuns to smuggle things to MIR political prisoners in Chile back in the 1970s.

Antinous: So you knew two nuns who run guns to the Patagoniuns? Were they having fun when it begun or did the nuns who ran guns get undone? Did they move a ton of guns? Would you shun a nun with a gun?

I don't really get it. What is so special here? The fact that it is a Christian nun getting frisked? If it is, then why should she get any special privileges over the rest of us. Or is that she is getting frisked by a Muslim security woman? Again, what is so special about that? There are 1 billion Muslims over the world, are you implying that they are all suspect or in any way unfit to be performing the role of airport security agents? Like I said, I don't see what is funny and/or ironic about this picture?

She should wear the "Is This Strip Search Really Necessary?" underwear. They come in black. Mother Superior-approved!

Question: How many people were killed in 911 six years ago?
Answer: 3000

Question: How many murders have occurred in America since then?
Answer: about 15,000 a year, for 6 years = 60,000 (about 2/3rd of these are gun related)

Question: How many people have died in car accidents in America?
Answer: about 40,000 a year, after 6 years that 1/4 million

This tells me that the reasonable, logical thing to do is to get rid of the TSA, ban all guns, and reduce the speed limit by 20mph. But of course people are neither logical nor reasonable ...
