Butt-biting bug now even more ginormous in Japan
Remember that wack-ass animated children's pop song from Japan about the butt-biting bug? "Oshiri Kajiri Mushi" has since cracked the top ten list of pop singles in that nation, and Japanprobe points to a television interview with Uruma and Derubi, the married animator/songwriter couple who created it. Uruma noticed that his wife’s butt was totally sticking out and told her, “Watch out! With your butt is sticking out like that, a butt-biting bug might come along and bite it!”
If that’s not a great way to think of a song, I don’t know what is.

Gah! It's just a song? From that headline, I was expecting either a giant blood-sucking insect, or at the very least some kind of new crowded subway fetish.
As a point of note, I spotted a fair bit of butt-biting bug merchandise around Tokyo and Kyoto earlier this month; it's now a manga and anime series, as I understand it, and the song is a spin-off.
I live in western Honshu, which is quite a bit different from Tokyo--I've never seen or heard of this little guy except on the Net. Why is it such big news? Is it just another example of 'those wacky Japanese'?
