Sex Pistols return
The original Sex Pistols will reunite for a one-off London gig to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols. The November 8 show will take place at Brixton Academy. A seven-inch vinyl of God Save The Queen will also be released as part of the anniversary. From the NME:
In honor of this news, here's the infamous December 1, 1976 appearance of the Sex Pistols and their punk pals (including Siouxsie Sioux!) on Bill Grundy's Today TV show.

LinkSpeaking about their return to the London gig scene for the first time since 2002, Sex Pistols' frontman John Lydon explained: "Maybe it's because we're all Londoners, but there would be no Sex Pistols without dear old London town."
He added: "See you all at Brixton with proper feelings and proper people all around. From London Bridge to The Rose And Crown, all of Britain is welcome so come on down."

Yeah, I can't wait to see them walk up on stage, have them take their positions and have Johnny flip off the audience, shout FSCK YOU! at the top of his lungs then walk off the stage.
Seriously though, I'd love to be there.
One of the two concerts I'm truly sorry for missing is the Sex Pistols at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles back in May of 1980 (the other was the Germs final show at the Starwood). Still, while this reunion might be fun, I can't help but think it's the antithesis of the Pistols ethos.
We can only hope that a bunch of kids wearing "Hope I Die Before I Get Old" shirts and shouting out requests for Green Day covers show up at the concert.
Is it wrong that I am as excited about this as I am about the November London Led Zeppelin reunion show? I kind of think they'll both be duds, because comeback shows with rock-n-roldsters where half the dudes are dead are often lame. But still, two of my favorite bands of all time, and I don't care if you think that's incongruous.
Also fk'n great post. How awesome is that video clip.
In 1977 it might have been considered incongruous, but now it's just eclectic.
f yeah! woo!
*breaks a bottle or two*
Today's punk rockers aren't worthy of being vomited on by the sex pistols.
Did you ever feel like you'd been cheated?
I find their album as enjoyable as anyone, and it's no lie that I still dig listening to it every now and then... but I can't help but wish more kids could see a real punk band or two when they turn on their Wayback Machines-- CRASS would be my choice, rather than these know-nothings...

The last time the Sex Pistols tour they played the same night as Kiss's first back in make-up tour. I was *torn*, but figured that Kiss would do it again and the Pistols wouldn't. But the Sex Pistols AND Led Zeppelin in one month? Holy moly...I might just have to take november off and fly over for both. And FWIW, The Sex Pistols, even in 1997 were everyting they should have been and more. Complete with lugies on the audience. Maybe a boingboing field trip would be in order? Seriously, not to be missed, no matter how long after the fact, for both bands. Who's in?

...Two of the concerts I still kick myself in the ass for missing were the ones in San Antonio and at the Longhorn Dallas. The "Brain Trust" I was part of in high school all went, but someone's overprotective Pop decided that I didn't need to go out of town to see a concert, much less the Pistols. These days, he now understands that Punk Rock kept me from killing myself to escape the dreaded aural cancers known as "Disco" and "Country *AND* Western".
The Ultimate Choice Question: If you had a choice between a date with Xeni and round-trip tickets and spending cash to see this Pistols show, which would *you* choose?
The dirty old fuckers. Fat, 50, and back - again.
Oh dear, that's just going to be a big sad mess.
Sorry to burst the bubble but the Sex Pistols were the Milli Vanilli of their time. Stooges, created by McLaren after he saw the Ramones & Richard Hell perform at the Roundhouse (now that was a show).
Mike3K, I suppose someone had to say that.
PhilipB, are you quite sure you've got that right?
No, they weren't the Milli Vanilli of their time, but they were the Monkees of their time.
Doran : OK - I give you that. Listen to the album then listen to a live show, Jones on guitar, Sid on bass? I think not.
Finally someone else tells the truth. Perhaps after 30 years they've learned to play their instruments.
