Crankbait! A fishing lure art show
Steve Lodefink of Finkbuilt invited a bunch of artists to paint fishing lures for an online show called CRANKbait!
Artists include Amy Crehore, Wednesday Kirwan, Sandow Birk, Ape Lad, and Steve Lodefink.
I painted the one shown here. It's titled "Bumbleswine." Link

Oooooh! I want them ALL and I want them in a vintage Plano tackle box pinstriped by COOP! And I will take them to a river and imagine the grand stories fish would tell of the lures that got away.

I'm sorry--I love boing boing but this just is not cool. Fish feel pain, we know that now. Add to that the global impact of overfishing, and it's really truly time for us to stop thinking of this practice as a quaint, charming "sport".

It's "really truly" time for us to stop listening to people who think that it's no longer necessary to do things we have been doing for millennia in order to survive, thank you very much.

Oh, I think you've been mistaken, maybe you've never been fishing, but it is actually quite cool. I find it both quaint and charming. You should really try it sometime. Fish are quite brainless and your PETA links will do nothing to convince anyone with an ounce of wit otherwise.
And don't forget, they are fish. Not people. Not kittens, but fish.
Um, can we make BoingBoing the ONE place on the internet where people don't feel they have to personally attack those who don't agree with them? Hmm? Please? A simple rebuttal suffices, it doesn't have to get nasty. This ain't high school, ya'll.
I'm in this show and it was soooo much fun!
I seriously doubt anyone will use these lures
to fish with!
Most of these lures are quite humorous.
Adding the hooks to my lure was like making a fine piece of jewelry.
Ouch.
Nick (5), where was there a personal attack? Who got nasty? The closest this thread has gotten to a fighting word has been "brainless," and it was applied to fish, not people.
As for PETA sites being unconvincing, I'm with Steve Zembek. It's a real problem. PETA does some of the worst PR ever seen on this planet.
PETA really does have a PR problem, like the ACLU. Both organizations sometimes get involved in issues and suits that many undecided people probably see as marginal or even nutty. Even supporters don't support every initiative or position, and some of these really are pretty radical in light of the current political and social scene.
And unfortunately, the press only seems to cover the more "out there" aspects of the two groups' activities.
Per the "attacks," I sensed (perhaps wrongly)a certain amount of belittling of other people's opinions and "wit." If I misinterpreted, my apologies to the concerned parties.
