Is the Steve Fossett website coming up "404 Not Found" supposed to be ironic? Is that what they call "marketing" these days?

buy the ticket, take the ride

while I admire the thrill-seekers determination and derring do, I always feel afraid for the brave people who have to risk their lives trying to save a person who has chosen to live with risk!

although I do hope he is found alive, the world needs risk-takers...

The aviation authority was Civil Air Patrol, the USAF Auxiliary, comprised of cadets and adult volunteers which does search and rescue missions, and has since WWII. When a real emergency doesn't exist they do extensive practice training excercises.

Is "adventurer " a job?

steve is a true hero, and it'll be a shame if this is his end, although i suppose it wasn't hard to predict that he would die in some kind of aircraft accident.

if you haven't been following his accomplishments:

A "true hero?" Whose life did he save? What dangerous criminal did he capture? Sure, it takes a lot of bravery to do the stuff he did, but calling someone a hero for doing dangerous stunts for money is a bit silly when there are actual heroes doing really heroic things in the spirit of altruism.

I hope the man is all right, but I would not call him a hero. That goes to the people trying to find him.

The people searching for Steve also choose risk consciously, and they are also paid for their work.

Let's just pray Steve is safe, and hold the hero-bashing for later in tonight's gala program.

flying squid, he is a hero because he shows us what we are capable of. there are many kinds of heroes.

also, he doesn't do what he does for money.

He doesn't NEED to do it for money. He's a multi-millionaire. He shows what a multi-millionaire is capable of, not us.

Stressing the limits of human abilities is heroic in that it set paths for others in the future. While he certainly may die by the way he lived, people such as he consider the risk worth taking.

And yes, the rescue workers/search crews are also heroes, however their equipment and their abilities are there because of trail blazers like Steve Fossett. And they are able to help others, like you and me, because risk takers have paved the way.

So let's not belittle this man's accomplishments.

presently means 'in a very short while'.

currently means 'right now' 'as we speak'. I think you mean currently.

Just a little tweak there.

I really enjoyed the picture of his balloon when it went down 8/16/01 because (my birthday) and the silver balloon looked like there was a elephant (Eternal Love Entwined Prophecy Humble Adoration Now True) underneath it. I saved the picture!I use news events to create hopefully a myth of sorts in my imagination.
