Society of American Archivists dumps archives

Archival ninja Rick Prelinger sez, "The Society of American Archivists runs a great listserv, 'Archives and Archivists' I've subscribed for years. Here's where you go to find out about CD/DVD/HD longevity, copyright on photos, how to preserve the contents of time capsules, and shenanigans involving Presidential records. I've often disagreed with postings (especially from copyright maximalists) but I've learned a lot, and I'm grateful it's been there.

"Now the SAA's decided to dump 14 years of listserv archives after an assessment that the cost of keeping the bits is less than their 'evidential or informational value.' I couldn't disagree more. What irony — an archival organization deciding its own records aren't worth preserving."
