SF Chron columnist slams SF Chron for biased porn reporting
Blogger / author / roboticist Violet Blue, author of the SFGate column "Open Source Sex," tackles a new foe in that column this week -- the San Francisco Chronicle itself. At issue is the paper's reportedly biased and inaccurate coverage of recent news surrounding the independent, tech-friendly "alt-porn" producers at kink.com (NSFW).
Here's what Violet wrote on her blog: Link. Here's where she takes on the Chronicle, in the Chronicle: Link to "Kink.com and Porn Hysteria: The Lie of Unbiased Reporting."
Image: Kink.com. I interviewed the site's webmaster and captured sound from their "sex machines" in this NPR: Xeni Tech episode on "Day to Day" -- "Tech and Porn Conventions Collide in Las Vegas."
Their production facility in San Francisco is an interesting place. A lot of geeks, tinkerers, and former dotcommers work there. What I remember most wasn't the unclothed beautiful people, but the nerdy details: every gadget, every wire, every whip or restraint, every ten-gallon tub of lube was meticulously labeled, organized, and catalogued. The place was an OCD nerd dream. The environment for performers and staff seemed different from any other adult entertainment company I'd had an opportunity to witness first-hand.
