CNN censored inside Thailand, on-air and online
At the Bangkok metblog, Daniel writes,
One of the first things that took place during last years coup [in Thailand] was the immediate censorship of all media, especially the foreign satellite feeds. Tonight's CNN interview with ousted Prime Minster Thaksin [Shinawatra] was totally censored by the powers that be.Link to post (Thanks, Sean Bonner). Jit from 2bangkok says,As of 12:36am, CNN is totally inaccessible from most ISPs based in Thailand. The Council for National Security (CNS) has demanded that all domestic broadcasters, both television and radio, stop giving coverage to anything related to Thaksin.
Here is how [the censored broadcast] appeared to Thai viewers watching the broadcast on local cable operator UBC. The story is cut off by the same montage of young Hollywood stars used to block international broadcasts after the coup in September 2006.Link to blog post, here's the uncensored CNN transmission: Link, and here's the censored version: Link.
