The Last Of The Macacas: a racial slur reclaimed

Following on Senator George Allen's remark about South Asians as 'macacas', a furor erupted across the blogosphere, and has cost him. The 'desis' claimed the word for their own, and inevitably, now, we have 'macaca fan fiction', social science-fiction, I believe:

"She was born a macaca - brown like a slippery eel, pugged nose, large doe like eyes, small forehead; all in all bland features - no different from those of her native land"
