Disney, 1939: No woman animators allowed
In 1939, the Disney Animation Studios sent this form letter to animator Lillian Friedman, who'd worked for five years at Fleischer studios, turning down her job application, noting, "Women do not do any of the creative work in connection with preparing the cartoons for the screen, as that work is performed entirely by young men.
