Intersex fish off SoCal coast
Scientists caught eleven fish off the coast of Southern California that have ovary tissue in their testes. Usually, mutant fish like this are only found in freshwater that has been tainted with pollution from industrial facilities. From the Associated Press:
Nearly a billion gallons of treated sewage are released into the Pacific Ocean every day through three underwater pipelines off Huntington Beach, Playa del Rey and Palos Verdes Peninsula.Link (Thanks, Vann Hall!)
Although the wastewater is filtered, it still contains contaminants that settle onto the ocean floor.
