Flap over adult podcasts and iTunes
Folks are talking about the matter of which podcasts do or don't make it in to the pick lists of available podcasts in iTunes (the latest edition of Apple's popular music service now offers podcast support).
Sex blogger/author Violet Blue was among a number of adult-oriented podcasters -- porncasters? -- whose audio programs have been available through iTunes.
Violet, whose podcast was rated #1 in the "sex" category, says, "Xeni, mine and this one (Link) just got removed from iTunes. Have Boing Boing readers heard about this?"
Not sure what's going on there, or if the podcast has in fact become unavailable through ITMS (TUAW says it's still available), but that's not the only question making the rounds. Other bloggers have voiced concern in recent weeks about how access to the "adult" podcasts was managed. "Should Apple really be peddling porn?," said Kirk. Link to his post.
Update: Fleshbot's editor says, "Just checked the iTunes Store after seeing Xeni's BB post today and it looks like Violet's podcast is still there, though it now carries an "Explicit" label."
Kirk says, "I'm the one who wrote the article about the porncasts, and I'd like to make one comment. Steve Jobs, in an interview with ABC News, said the following:
"Except that -- on our directory -- you know, we're not -- we're not allowing any pornography. And we're not allowing -- you know, copyright infringement and things like that.""I think this puts things in better perspective. After all, if that's Apple's position, then they are not living up to Jobs' claims."
